Summer ministry update
We are thankful for all who continue to partner with us in various ways to reach others in a time of need. The ministry of Lima Rescue Mission does not take a day off, and without your support it would not be possible to carry on this work throughout the year.
Our overnight shelter continues to be at-or-near capacity, and the number coming in for meals remains average. Our staff continues to meet and work with every individual who turns to us for help. Some only need a place to stay for a short time, while others are facing greater challenges. While we do what we can in every situation, there are some people who are difficult to work with. We appreciate your prayers for wisdom in those situations.
Our after school ministry concluded in April, and we began work on various maintenance projects around the campground to prepare for summer activities. Board and staff members have been working on clearing trails, trimming trees, preparing the pool, completing network upgrades, and other activities. There is always work to be done, and we are thankful for the people and resources to help. We are looking forward to the Camp Roberts ministry getting underway starting June 9th.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support of the ministries of Lima Rescue Mission and Camp Roberts.
New playground installed at Camp Roberts
We recently received a generous grant which allowed us to install a new playground set at Camp Roberts. This replaces an older, smaller playground that was in poor condition. The installation was completed in April, and the set is enclosed in an area with rubber mulch. We know that the kids will enjoy this new playground, and we are thankful for the funding that made this possible.

Children's Chapel demolition completed
In March, we completed demolition of the Children's Chapel building located at the corner of North and Pine Streets. This site housed our after school ministry from 1965 until the early 2000s. The building, originally a house, was constructed in 1920, and at one point was added onto and housed a small church. It was sitting vacant when we purchased it in 1964. After renovations, the first after school class met in January 1965. This location was chosen because it was across the street from Garfield Elementary School, making it easy for children to walk over after school. Around 10 years later, Garfield closed, and we began using vans to transport children from other schools.
The closing of Garfield School was not the only change that took place while the Children's Chapel was operating. Our Camp Roberts ministry was established in 1975, and provided ample space not only for summer camp, but eventually after school classes as well.
Classes were held here until the early 2000s. The building fell into disrepair, and also had structural issues. Due to its age and changes in our children's programs, it was not worth restoring. We are thankful for the many years of ministry that took place at the Children's Chapel, and for the ministry that continues today at Camp Roberts with our after school program and summer day camp. We are committed to investing in the lives of children facing adversity, and we are thankful for all who make that possible!
Current needs
Donating items from our needs list is a great way to make a difference in the lives of the poor and homeless, and anyone can get involved by collecting these items. The best time to bring donations to the Mission is on weekdays from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. or Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Our current needs include:
- Bleach
- Laundry soap (liquid)
- Paper towels
- Canned beef and chicken
- #10 cans of vegetables, baked beans
Meal volunteer opportunity
Would your church, workplace, family, or other group be interested in joining us to serve meals? This activity is ideal for a group of at least two and up to seven people and is a great way to get involved in hands-on ministry to the homeless. We provide meals every day, and the time of serving and cleanup runs from 4:30–6:00 P.M. You can join us to serve as a one-time activity, or get scheduled to serve on a regular basis. We are also looking for groups who are interested in providing meals! We are currently seeing 15-20 men every night for supper. If you would like to get involved in this ministry, please contact Chuck at 567-242-5601, or e-mail
