December ministry update
We have been blessed and encouraged by your prayers and support throughout this year. We are thankful for the opportunity to complete multiple projects, provide daily care to those in need at the Mission, and expand the ministry of Camp Roberts.
Projects
Last year we completed two building projects at the Mission, and this year we addressed several needs at Camp Roberts. The new playground was one of our featured projects. We were also able to install new doors on the chapel and lodge buildings, new flooring in the chapel, and new picnic tables outside the lodge. These projects are made possible by grants, legacy gifts, and designated funds. We are thankful for the Lord's blessings in allowing us to take care of maintenance and make improvements. We shared a booklet highlighting recent projects at this year's banquet, and extra copies are available for anyone interested.
Men's Ministry
This year our overnight shelter has been at-or-near capacity most of the time. There has been more frequent turnover, with a shorter length of stay. Recently, we have had more men move into our transitional housing, which provides an opportunity for those with a source of income to have more private living arrangements while saving for their own apartment. The number of those coming in for meals has been lower than years past, but also less predictable. There may be a difference of 10-15 people from one night to the next, which can make it difficult to plan meals. We continue to look for volunteers who may be interested in joining us to provide or serve meals.
Camp Roberts
This summer we were able to hire additional staff for our camp program, which was a great help. Our after school program is currently taking place on Tuesdays, and this year we added a teen discipleship time on Mondays called Fireside Nights. We also have opportunities for families to get involved with a fall festival and Thanksgiving meal. We continue to look for opportunities to grow and reach others with the gospel through activities at Camp Roberts.
Finances
Last December, we shared about a significant shortfall. This year, we are pleased to report that we have been able to replenish our savings, mainly because of legacy gifts. Giving overall has increased this year. We are thankful for your continued support which provides stability for our ministry into the next year and years to come.
Looking ahead
We thank the Lord as we trust Him in our daily work. We look forward to the many opportunities we have been given to care for others as we focus on the message of the gospel. Thank you for joining us this year—you make it possible to reach others in need in our community every day.
Celebrating 119 years of ministry
On Friday, October 31, we gathered to celebrate 119 years of ministry. Thank you to everyone who attended this year's anniversary banquet! We enjoyed the music of Greater Vision, and were blessed by the time of fellowship. We saw a video highlighting the ministry of Camp Roberts, and heard a testimony from Mark about his time of volunteering at the Mission.
We appreciate all of the generous sponsors who made this year's banquet possible. The banquet provides an opportunity to thank our supporters, and is also a fundraiser for our daily ministry. We are thankful for all who gave so generously this year. The banquet is also a great opportunity to introduce people to the work of the Mission, and we appreciate everyone who invited guests this year.
We are thankful for all supporters—those who started giving recently and others who are carrying on a family tradition of support over multiple generations. Your generosity ensures that Lima Rescue Mission will be equipped to care for those in need for years to come. Thank you for your role in this ministry, and for joining us in our commitment to uphold biblical truth, proclaim the gospel, and serve others in Jesus' name.
Current needs
Donating items from our needs list is a great way to make a difference in the lives of the poor and homeless, and anyone can get involved by collecting these items. The best time to bring donations to the Mission is on weekdays from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. or Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. A list of current needs can be found on this page.
